NIRJULI, Jun 3: The 1 Arunachal Pradesh Battalion of National Cadet Corps (NCC), under the aegis of NCC Group Headquarters, Tezpur, has commenced its Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-37) cum Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme (YAMS) at NERIST, Nirjuli. The camp is being held from June 1 to 10.
The camp is also serving as a pre-coaching programme for the Under-17 Boys' team and a selection-cum-training camp for the Under-17 Girls' team of NCC Group HQs, Tezpur, for the prestigious Subroto Cup Football Tournament.
A total of 350 NCC cadets from Group HQs, Tezpur, including 56 cadets enrolled under the Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme, are participating in the camp which is being conducted under the supervision of a team comprising 11 military staff, four Associate NCC Officers (ANOs), and two Caretaker Training Officers (CTOs), led by the Commanding Officer and Administrative Officer of 1 AP Bn NCC.
The primary objective of the camp is to acquaint cadets with the rigours of camp life while instilling the NCC's core values of unity and discipline, national integration, leadership, and camaraderie. The training schedule includes physical training, field craft and battle craft basics, equipment handling, section drill demonstrations, and small arms firing. These activities are designed to enhance the cadets' physical fitness, mental resilience, teamwork, leadership qualities, and overall personality development.
In addition to military-oriented training, the other highlight of the camp is the YAMS training wherein cadets will be trained for disaster responsiveness. This initiative, launched by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), seeks to equip NCC volunteers with essential skills required to respond effectively to disaster emergencies.
Cadets will receive structured training on basic relief, rescue, and response mechanisms to address disasters such as floods, cloudbursts, and earthquakes. The YAM training sessions are being conducted by qualified instructors from the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), Arunachal Pradesh, providing cadets with practical tactical skills.
In addition, the camp features guest lectures by distinguished personalities from various fields. These sessions are aimed at motivating cadets, broadening their perspectives, and helping them make informed career choices.
