ECI hosts Int’l Conference on Global Best Practices for Media in Electoral Campaigns

NEW DELHI, Jun 3: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday inaugurated a two-day International Conference on “Global Best Practices and Innovations for Media in Electoral Processes and Campaigns” at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi.

Delivering the keynote address, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar highlighted the Commission's efforts to strengthen electoral participation through extensive training of grassroots election functionaries, including BLOs and BLAs. He noted that the trust of voters in the electoral system was reflected in the record voter turnout witnessed during the recently concluded State Legislative Assembly elections.

More than 480 participants, including DEOs, EROs, thematic experts, academicians, research scholars, and members of Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs), are taking part in the conference.

The conference aims to develop practitioner-oriented global knowledge resources documenting international experiences, model standards, and best practices in election management, with a view to contributing to the final thematic report envisaged under the Delhi Declaration adopted on January 23, 2026.

Discussions will focus on key issues in election-related media campaigns, including misinformation and disinformation, AI-generated deepfakes and synthetic media, non-transparent digital political advertising and platform governance.

The event is being organized by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi, in collaboration with IIIDEM and Delhi Technological University (DTU), under India's 2026 Chairship of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA).
