Itanagar, Jun 6: The Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (DoEF&CC), Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, observed World Environment Day 2026 with a one-day brainstorming session at the PCCF Office premises here on Saturday.
Organised under the global theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,” the programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from departmental officials, staff members, students and environmental stakeholders.
Highlighting the significance of World Environment Day, Chief Conservator of Forests (Environment) VK Jawal, while delivering the welcome address, described it as a global platform for promoting environmental awareness and collective action towards a sustainable future.
The programme featured the screening of a thematic video on World Environment Day 2026 and the release of the EIACP Special Newsletter. The open brainstorming session was inaugurated by Deputy Conservator of Forests (Conservation), Tejaswini Pusuluri, who stressed the urgent need for collective climate action involving students, educators and the wider community.
A major highlight of the programme was the participation of students, who shared their perspectives on environmental conservation and climate change. Takam Juni, a Class X student of Nichiphu Children's Foundation School, Hill Top, described nature as humanity’s greatest teacher and expressed concern over growing environmental degradation caused by deforestation and pollution.
Dino Beyong, a Class IX student of Gellam Memorial High School, Chandranagar, emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean environment and protecting trees and natural resources for future generations. Similarly, Taj Nalo, a Class X student of St Francis D’Assisi School, Karsingsa, observed that climate change is no longer a distant concern but a reality being experienced worldwide, underscoring the need for immediate action.
The department also distributed certificates and trophies to winners of the drawing competition organized as part of the World Environment Day celebrations.
Addressing the gathering, PCCF and Head of Forest Force (HoFF) P Subramanyam expressed happiness at interacting with young students and emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship from an intergenerational perspective. He stated that environmental conservation is a responsibility shared across generations and that reducing unsustainable exploitation of natural resources is essential for ensuring a sustainable future.
The programme concluded with the administration of the Environment Day pledge led by P Subramanyam, reaffirming participants’ commitment to adopting sustainable and eco-friendly practices. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Anjan Chamuah, Programme Officer, EIACP PC-Hub, DoEF&CC, who acknowledged the contributions of all participants and stakeholders.
The event reinforced the message that meaningful environmental protection requires collective responsibility, active community participation and sustained action, particularly from the younger generation, to build a greener and more climate-resilient future.
