Paving the way for ‘Clean Daporijo, Green Daporijo’: AWC takes initiative through social service and plantation drive

DAPORIJO, Jun 6: A Social Service-cum-Tree Plantation Drive was organized this morning at the highway-side area adjacent to the Jaring ground, under the aegis of the Apatani Welfare Committee (AWC), Upper Subansiri district, in aid of the forthcoming Dree Festival.

Conducted on the theme ‘Clean Daporijo, Green Daporijo’, the programme, led by Upper Subansiri DC along with the ADC Daporijo, and executive members of the AWC, witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the Apatani community.

Several prominent personalities and officials actively participated in the plantation drive, including Larji Rigia Dukam, president of the Tagin Cultural Society (TCS), Tumkam Nalo, executive engineer, PWD Nacho, executive members of the TCS, the women wing general secretary of TCS, and other members of the society.

Also, members of the AWC, including men, women, and children from the Apatani community residing in Upper Subansiri district, turned out in large numbers to support the initiative. Together, participants undertook a cleanliness drive and planted palm-oil saplings along the designated stretch, contributing towards the beautification and greening of Daporijo township.

Speaking on the occasion, the guests emphasized the importance of environmental conservation, community participation, and sustainable development.

They lauded the efforts of the organizers in promoting ecological awareness while simultaneously strengthening communal harmony and social responsibility.

The programme concluded with a collective pledge by participants to continue supporting environmental initiatives and to work together towards making Daporijo a model green township. (DIPRO)
