AAPMWC seeks uniform action on religious structures in ICR

ITANAGAR, Jun 6: The All Arunachal Pradesh Masjid Welfare Committee (AAPMWC) has demanded the immediate unsealing of mosques recently sealed by the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) district administration and called for uniform verification of all religious structures operating without requisite permissions, irrespective of faith.

Addressing reporters at the Arunachal Press Club on Saturday, AAPMWC spokesperson Gia Limpeah Sultan alleged discriminatory treatment towards the Muslim community and questioned the selective enforcement of regulatory norms.

The committee claimed that while certain mosques had been declared unauthorized on grounds related to registration and statutory clearances, similar scrutiny had not been applied to religious structures belonging to other faiths.

To support its claims, the committee presented a list of religious establishments in the ICR, including temples, churches and gurdwaras, which it alleged lacked registration documents or statutory approvals.

The AAPMWC argued that if mosques are being assessed on the basis of legal and administrative compliance, the same standards should be applied uniformly to all religious institutions.

"If mosques are being termed illegal on these grounds, then the same criteria should be applied to every religious structure irrespective of religion,” a committee representative said.

The committee threatened to launch a democratic movement if its demands are not addressed by the authorities.
