TUTING, Jun 6: The Indian Army under the Spear Corps observed World Environment Day in Tuting with a series of plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns and environmental awareness programmes, reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development in the frontier region.
The programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation from the civil administration, school children, teachers, local residents and disciples of Buddhist monasteries, who joined Army personnel in efforts to preserve the region’s rich ecological heritage.
As part of the celebrations, tree plantation and cleanliness drives were conducted at various locations, promoting environmental responsibility and sustainable practices among the local community. Participants also engaged in discussions on conservation, waste management and the importance of maintaining a clean and green environment for future generations.
Adding a creative dimension to the observance, the Spearhead Gunners organized a poster-making competition at Govt Primary School, Pekong Block, under the theme “Our Planet, Our Strength.”
Fifteen students participated in the competition, showcasing their creativity through posters highlighting environmental conservation, sustainable living and the protection of the planet.
The event also featured an interactive session where students discussed environmental challenges and shared ideas on simple practices that can contribute to a cleaner and greener future. The programme provided young participants with an opportunity to express their concerns and aspirations regarding environmental protection while enhancing awareness about ecological responsibility.
Located amidst the pristine landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh, Tuting is known for its unique biodiversity and fragile ecosystem. Recognising the importance of preserving this natural heritage, the Indian Army continues to undertake community outreach and environmental initiatives in collaboration with local stakeholders.
The celebrations highlighted the strong bond between the Indian Army and local communities and underscored the importance of collective action in protecting the environment.
