ITANAGAR, Jun 7: The Itanagar Police has arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with an attempt to murder case involving a violent assault on an auto-rickshaw driver near the Clock Tower area in Itanagar.
According to police, a written complaint was received at Itanagar Police Station on June 6 regarding an alleged assault on an auto driver by another auto driver. Based on the complaint, a case was registered as Itanagar P.S. Case No. 152/2026 under Sections 109(II) and 118(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to attempt to murder and voluntarily causing grievous hurt by a dangerous weapon.
Following the registration of the case, a police team launched a late-night operation and successfully traced and arrested the alleged accused, identified as Tai Saimon (28), son of late Tai Tachey, presently residing near the State Legislative Assembly in Itanagar.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a physical altercation had reportedly taken place between the accused and the victim. During the confrontation, the accused allegedly attacked the victim with a machete, inflicting serious injuries and endangering his life.
The injured victim is currently undergoing medical treatment, police said, adding that further investigation is underway, including collection of medical reports, examination of witnesses, verification of CCTV footage and recovery of other relevant evidence.
Reiterating its commitment to maintaining law and order, police stated that incidents of violent assault will be dealt with firmly and strictly in accordance with the law.
