ITANAGAR, Jun 7: Students from Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar, Amity University, Delhi, and Don Bosco College, Itanagar, participated in an awareness programme organised at the Itanagar Women Police Station (WPS), aimed at promoting legal literacy, women’s safety and responsible citizenship.
During the session, police officials educated the students about the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112) and its mobile application, the newly enacted criminal laws, legal provisions available for women, and the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act. Participants were also informed about various emergency helpline numbers that can be accessed for immediate assistance during crises.
In view of the prevailing bandh calls in the Capital Region and the susceptibility of youth to external influences, the students were sensitized about the consequences of engaging in violence and unlawful activities. Officials encouraged them to adopt lawful and democratic means of addressing grievances, including filing Public Interest Litigations (PILs), Right to Information (RTI) applications, and Writ Petitions, rather than resorting to disruptive or violent actions.
The students were also briefed on the services provided by Ane’s Home – an One-Stop Support Hub, which operates from within the Women Police Station and offers support and assistance to women in distress.
The programme concluded with an interactive discussion, during which participants were encouraged to uphold the rule of law, act as responsible citizens, and contribute towards maintaining peace, harmony and social cohesion in society.
