ITANAGAR, Jun 10: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta on Wednesday chaired the 8th State-Level Narcotics Coordination (NCORD) meeting and reviewed the Action Taken Report on decisions made during the previous meeting.
The meeting assessed progress on district-level coordination, enforcement actions against drug trafficking, eradication of illicit opium poppy and cannabis cultivation, disposal of seized narcotics, rehabilitation efforts, and awareness programmes being implemented across the state.
Emphasising the need to curb substance abuse among young people, the Chief Secretary called for intensive awareness campaigns through educational institutions and community engagement initiatives. He stressed the importance of educating youth on the harmful effects of drug abuse and promoting informed decision-making.
Gupta directed the Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Tribal Affairs (SJETA), the nodal department for the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, to strengthen coordination with Deputy Commissioners and police authorities to ensure effective implementation, monitoring and measurable outcomes at the district level.
Reiterating the government's commitment to combating drug abuse, the Chief Secretary underscored the need for a whole-of-government approach involving enforcement agencies, educational institutions, health authorities, community organisations and citizens.
He said collective efforts and coordinated action are essential to achieving the goal of a drug-free Arunachal Pradesh.
