ITANAGAR, Jun 10: The Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisation (APIYO) has called for the dismantling of allegedly illegal religious structures in the state, stating that merely sealing them would not provide a permanent solution.
Addressing a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club on Wednesday, APIYO president Taro Sonam Liyak said that the organisation wants a long-term resolution to the issue.
“Only sealing them is not a permanent solution. If the government is serious about addressing the issue of illegal structures, they should either be dismantled or taken over and converted into institutions or other public utility facilities,” Liyak said.
The APIYO president also alleged that there are many illegal immigrants from Bangladesh residing in the state and some of them take shelter in such structures. He urged the government to identify and deport any illegal immigrants found residing in Arunachal Pradesh.
Regarding the constitution of the joint high-power committee to examine issues related to alleged illegal Bangladeshi migrants, Liyak said APIYO was not interested in participating in another committee-based mechanism.
He maintained that the organisation prefers direct action and implementation of measures by the government rather than prolonged deliberations through committees, towards addressing concerns related to illegal immigration and unauthorized structures in the state.
