APTUF, AAPWU call off proposed strike post release of pending wages

ITANAGAR, Jun 13: The Arunachal Pradesh Trade Union Federation (APTUF) and the All Arunachal Pradesh Workers' Union (AAPWU) have withdrawn their proposed strike scheduled to commence from June 20 following the release of pending wages of casual and contingency workers by the state government.

Addressing a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club here on Saturday, APTUF secretary general Kenkar Yomcha said the decision was taken after the government released the pending salaries of around 4,000 casual and contingency employees working under various departments.

Yomcha alleged that miscommunication between the state government and heads of departments had led to delays in wage disbursement, leaving thousands of workers unpaid for several months. “Some workers have been waiting for their salaries for as long as eight to nine months,” he claimed.

Welcoming the government’s intervention, both APTUF and AAPWU expressed gratitude for the release of the pending wages and said the development had addressed the immediate concerns that prompted the strike call.

Yomcha also voiced support for the demand raised by the All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Welfare Society (AAPWWS) regarding the effective implementation of non-statutory welfare schemes under the Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (APB&OCWWB). He said workers across the state require the benefits provided under such welfare schemes and urged the authorities to ensure that eligible workers are able to access them.
