Over 60 papers presented at GCD-hosted two-day national seminar

ITANAGAR, Jun 13: A two-day national seminar on ‘Revisiting Tribal Histories: Culture, Memory and Identity in North East India’ was successfully conducted by the Department of History at Govt College Doimukh (GCD), attracting prominent historians, researchers, and academicians from across the country.

Conducted under the sponsorship of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), New Delhi, the event started with a vibrant inaugural ceremony featuring a chorus performance by students of the Dept of History.

The programme was attended by Prof Tana Showren, president of NES, UGC and ICHR Council member. In his address, he emphasized the importance of re-evaluating historical perspectives through tribal narratives, memories, and lived experiences.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof Amarjiva Lochan, vice president of IAHR under CIPSH–UNESCO. He spoke on the global significance of preserving tribal religious histories and cultural traditions.

Other distinguished speakers included Prof Paromita Das, former HoD History (Gauhati University), and Dr Deepi Rekha Kouli, Director of Archaeology, Guwahati.

More than 60 research papers were presented by scholars from various universities and colleges across the country.

Earlier, Dr Taw Azu, Principal GCD, delivered the welcome address.

The seminar provided an important platform for scholarly discussions on tribal histories, cultural heritage, memory, identity, and contemporary challenges in North East India.
