ZIRO, Jun 14: The Blood Centre at Gyati Takka Zonal General Hospital transformed into a buzzing hub of community spirit and shared humanity on World Blood Donor Day, as the hospital team united with the CRC Hapoli Youth (26th Youth Foundation) to host a voluntary blood donation camp and appreciation ceremony.
The entire event breathed life into this year's global campaign slogan, ‘One Drop of Humanity, Give Blood, Save Life.’
By the end of the day, local volunteers had rolled up their sleeves to contribute 15 vital units of blood. These donations immediately go toward strengthening the hospital’s emergency reserves, providing an essential safety net for upcoming surgeries, complex deliveries, and unexpected trauma cases across the region.
The camp was honored to welcome Capt Chirag Singhal from the 756 BRTF (GREF) Project Arunank, as chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Capt Singhal noted that stepping up to donate is one of the purest expressions of looking out for your neighbor, emphasizing that grassroots drives like this are what keep public healthcare strong and resilient in remote communities.
A deeply moving highlight of the day was a felicitation ceremony, where the community paused to say a long-overdue thank you to local heroes who have spent the past year working behind the scenes for blood safety. The first group honored included dedicated organizers and top regional donors who have rallied people together without any prior public recognition.
This roll of honor included Capt Chirag Singhal, Ajit Kumar Pegu (2nd-in-Command, ITBP 60th Battalion, Hapoli), Pastor Dani Tadu (executive secretary ABA), Hage Duyu (GS HYO / Vice Chief ZRE), Jiren Teron (GS CRC Hapoli), Tage Tagyung and Nending Sumpi (both Programme Officers for NSS at St Claret College, Ziro), Hage Chobing (president DHYA), Joram Tado, Topi Sora, Hano Usha (Assistant Professor, MTMC), Tumter Riba, Pebi Gamlin, and Perpum Gamlin.
Pyagang Tapu was honoured as the sole recipient this year for his selflessness in consistently answering the call to donate rare -ve blood, a lifeline that is incredibly difficult to secure when an emergency strikes. (DIPRO)
