World Blood Donor Day observance across the State dotted with a collection of 342 life saving units

ITANAGAR, Jun 15: Joining the rest of the globe, the State Blood Transfusion Council, Directorate of Health Services, Arunachal Pradesh and 14 Blood Centres across the State celebrated World Blood Donor Day themed ‘One drop of humanity. Give Blood. Save lives’ in a befitting way.

To mark the Day, 13 Voluntary Blood Donation (VBD) camps/awareness programmes were organized across 14 Blood Centres with a total blood collection recorded at 342 units.

The break-up of life saving units includes TRIHMS-39, BPZGH, Pasighat-78, RKMH Itanagar-55, DH Roing-32, DH Daporijo-16, DH Yingkion-10, GTZGH-Ziro-15, DH-Longding-12, ZGH Bomdila-12, ZGH Aalo-10, ZGH Tezu-49, and KDS DH Tawang-14.

The State level celebration of World Blood Donor Day 2026 was organized at Amik Rinya Hall, Tezu in Lohit district so as to disseminate the message of voluntary blood donation for ‘Pan-Arunachal’ reach.

The programme was organized by Blood Centre, Zonal General Hospital, Tezu with active support from the BTS (SBTC), Directorate of Health Services (GoAP).

Dr Mohesh Chai, Adviser to Health Minister, inaugurated the blood donation camp and addressed the relevance of blood in the health facilities, and briefed on the development status of ZGH, Tezu and the State scenario.

The main highlight of the event was felicitation of voluntary blood donors and programmes laced with messages of promotion of voluntary blood donation.

Also, a voluntary blood donation camp was arranged by Blood Centre, Tezu to mark the Day. A selected list of highest blood donors from the State & the district level were honoured with a certificate & memento by Dr Chai and ZPC Basanlu Dellang.

This year Dr Ogin Jerang and Gagam Badu were selected as first (18 times blood donations) from among the individual voluntary blood donors, followed by James Siram (16 times), Maluk Romin (15), Reter Gankak (11) and Hebom Ngomdir Basar (4) among female voluntary blood donors.

Dr Joram Khopey, Dy Director SBTC, highlighted the importance of the Day, blood transfusion scenario of the State, and emphasized on the need for involvement of the local populace in the noble drive of voluntary blood donation, inclusiveness & active role of females in blood donation and motivation movement.

He urged the potential blood donors to refrain from bad habits and to come forward to donate blood with honest conscience to save lives.

Kesang Ngurup Damo, Deputy Commissioner Lohit; Baplalum Chiba, ZPM Tezu and Aini Taki Taloh, Chairperson Ayang Foundation, first woman regular voluntary blood donor from Arunachal, also delivered motivating speeches on the importance of blood donation.

Various stakeholders viz Jawans from 9th Bn ITBP (Lohitpur), 25th Bn ITBP (Danglat), BRTF (Dimwe), 82nd Mount Brigade (Lohitpur), Field Hospital (Tezu), and CBOs, among others, participated in the programme.

On the occasion, a cultural programme highlighting the essence of blood donation was presented by students of VKV, Tezu.

Lohit DMO Dr C L Manchay and Dr Tater Kena, Medical Supdt, ZGH Tezu, also spoke.
