ITANAGAR, Jun 16: An awareness programme on government schemes, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship was conducted at ITI Namphai-I in Changlang district today.
Hosed at the request of the Department of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (GoAP) and facilitated by Kamal Roy, Assistant General Manager (District Development), NABARD, the programme saw participation of around 80 students.
During the first session, Roy provided an overview of the Indian banking system, its structure, and the various financial services available to the public. He explained the functions of different types of banks and introduced students to key banking products such as savings accounts, current accounts, recurring deposits, and fixed deposits. He also highlighted the importance of financial literacy and explained the roles of major financial regulators, including the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), and Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
Roy further emphasized the importance of insurance and discussed life insurance, general insurance, and motor insurance. He also explained procedures related to the Indian Motor Tariff (IMT) and the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT). In addition, students were introduced to investment options such as mutual funds and the benefits of Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) for long-term financial planning.
The second session focused on Central and State Government schemes designed to promote entrepreneurship and self-employment among rural youth. The participants were informed about schemes such as PMEGP, PMFME, PM Vishwakarma, PM Mudra Yojana, PM SVANidhi, and Stand-Up India. State-specific initiatives, including the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Swavalamban Yojana (DDUSY), Atma Nirbhar Krishi Yojana, Atma Nirbhar Bagwani Yojana, Atma Nirbhar Pashu Palan Yojana, and Atma Nirbhar Matsya Palan Yojana, were also discussed.
Also, Roy highlighted the importance of UDYAM registration in formalizing enterprises and enabling entrepreneurs to access various government benefits and support mechanisms.
The students actively participated in the discussions, sought clarifications on various schemes, and expressed keen interest in entrepreneurship opportunities.
