DOIMUKH, Jun 17: The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), Pare Hydro Power Station, Doimukh has issued a public advisory warning residents and stakeholders about the possible controlled release of excess water from the Pare Reservoir during the monsoon and post-monsoon season.
Deputy General Manager (Technical), Hydro Structure Maintenance and Infrastructure Division, Er Taba Gagung, informed that continuous rainfall in the catchment areas of the Pare River could cause the reservoir water level to rise up to Elevation 245.15 metres (MSL).
He stated that, to ensure reservoir safety and maintain uninterrupted power generation, excess water may be released gradually through the dam's radial gates in a controlled manner whenever necessary.
Er Gagung further cautioned that in the event of flash floods or a sudden surge in reservoir levels, all gates of the dam may be opened at short notice to facilitate emergency discharge of excess water and prevent any major disaster.
He appealed to Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members, local authorities and community leaders to disseminate the advisory widely among residents living in and around the reservoir area, as well as those residing along the downstream stretches of the Pare River and near the power house.
The advisory urged members of the public to avoid venturing near the reservoir and riverbanks during the monsoon period. Livestock owners have also been advised to keep their animals, including mithun, cattle, goats and pigs, away from the river to prevent accidents and loss of property.
NEEPCO cautioned that any activity undertaken in violation of the advisory may pose serious risks to life and property, and individuals concerned would be solely responsible for any consequences arising therefrom.
Seeking cooperation from all stakeholders, Er Gagung emphasized that public awareness and support are essential for ensuring the safety and well-being of communities during the monsoon season.
