Lok Bhavan celebrates West Bengal Diwas with cultural grandeur

Itanagar, Jun 20: The State Foundation Day of West Bengal was celebrated with great enthusiasm and cultural splendour at Lok Bhavan in Itanagar on Saturday under the leadership of Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik.

The programme highlighted the rich cultural heritage, artistic traditions and enduring spirit of West Bengal, reflecting the unity in diversity that forms the essence of India.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor recalled Bengal’s immense contribution to the nation’s history, particularly its role in India’s freedom movement, social reform initiatives, literary renaissance and cultural awakening. He noted that the state has produced some of the country’s most influential thinkers, reformers, writers, artists and educationists whose ideas continue to inspire generations.

Highlighting Bengal’s legacy of intellectual pursuit, creativity and social consciousness, the Governor said these contributions have played a significant role in shaping modern India.

He also appreciated the valuable contributions made by the Bengali community towards the socio-economic development and cultural enrichment of Arunachal Pradesh. Members of the community, he said, have rendered notable services in education, healthcare, administration, business and public service.

The Governor further acknowledged the longstanding service of the Ramakrishna Mission in Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in the fields of education, healthcare and social welfare. He said the Mission’s institutions have nurtured generations of young minds and provided quality services in remote areas, complementing the state's developmental efforts.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu extended warm greetings to the people of West Bengal. In his message, Khandu said that West Bengal occupies a unique place in India's civilisational journey and has made enduring contributions to literature, philosophy, science, art, music, industry and the freedom movement.

“These contributions have left an indelible mark on our national identity and continue to enrich the nation,” the Chief Minister said, expressing hope that West Bengal would continue to flourish in peace, harmony and progress while preserving its rich cultural and intellectual legacy.

The cultural segment of the celebration offered a vibrant showcase of Bengal’s artistic heritage. The programme began with a soulful rendition of Rabindra Sangeet by Pushpita Bhattacharjee and Prabash Paul. Students of Hornbill English School presented a colourful Bengali group dance, while a spirited Gorkha (Magar) group dance highlighted the cultural diversity associated with West Bengal.

A folk-fusion musical performance by Rup Joti Mukherjee, Mridula Roy and Jaydeep Biswas further captivated the audience by blending traditional melodies with contemporary expression.

Inspired by the vision of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, Arunachali student Techi Ajum presented a captivating Rabindra Nritya, showcasing Bengal’s rich artistic legacy and timeless cultural traditions.

The cultural programme concluded with a Bengali folk group dance performed by students of Nrityangan Dance and Music Academy, earning enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Students of Abotani Vidya Niketan, Pachin attended the celebration as special guests of the Governor. Their participation reflected the importance of exposing young minds to India's diverse cultural traditions and fostering national unity, mutual respect and cultural appreciation.

A special highlight of the event was the screening of a video message from West Bengal Governor RN Ravi, who conveyed his greetings and best wishes on the occasion.

As part of the celebrations, the Governor, along with his better half Anagha Parnaik, hosted a “high tea” for the Bengali community members, participating artists, students and officials. The informal interaction provided an opportunity for participants to share their aspirations and experiences in their second home.
