Itanagar, Jun 20: NHPC Director (Projects) Sanjay Kumar Singh conducted an extensive review of major hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh, including the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, the 2,880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Project and the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project, assessing construction progress, project preparedness and future implementation strategies.
During his visit to the Subansiri Lower HE Project on June 17, Singh was received by Executive Director (In-charge) and Head of the Project, Rajendra Prasad, along with Executive Director (HM and E&M Works) PK Ray and other senior officials.
The Director inspected the dam area, diversion tunnel inlet and outlet areas, and the powerhouse complex. He reviewed the progress of civil and electro-mechanical works, including preparations for the commissioning of Unit-5 and the construction status of Units 6, 7 and 8.
He also assessed critical electro-mechanical installations, concreting works for Units 7 and 8, and protection measures in the diversion tunnel inlet area. Singh directed executing agencies to expedite the remaining activities in line with the project schedule to facilitate early commissioning of the balance units.
He appreciated the dedication of the project team and urged them to maintain the momentum for timely completion of the project.
Subsequently, on June 18 and 19, Singh visited the 2,880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Project, where he reviewed the progress of ongoing construction works. He was welcomed by Narender Kumar, Executive Director and Head of the Dibang Project.
The Director inspected the dam construction site, diversion tunnel inlet and outlet areas, Dibang Bridge, underground powerhouse cavern and reviewed preparedness for the proposed residential colony at New Apali (Pather Camp). He also participated in the girder launching ceremony of the Ashupani Bridge.
Accompanied by Executive Director (PMSG) UK Nand and other senior officials, Singh directed executing agencies to accelerate pending works, strengthen coordination and ensure strict adherence to project schedules. Expressing satisfaction with the progress achieved, he voiced confidence in the timely accomplishment of key project milestones.
Singh also visited the NHPC Siang Basin Projects Office at Pasighat on June 18. During the visit, the Head of Project briefed him on the status of ongoing activities and key issues related to the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project.
Reviewing the project’s progress, Singh shared strategic insights for its effective implementation and future development. He underscored the importance of timely planning, coordination and stakeholder engagement in advancing the project. He also inspected the NHPC office premises at Pasighat and interacted with project officials.
The visit reflects NHPC's continued focus on monitoring and accelerating the implementation of strategically important hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh, which are expected to contribute significantly to the country’s renewable energy capacity and regional development.
