PANGIN, Jun 20: In a significant community-driven initiative aimed at strengthening emergency healthcare services, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing flagged off an ambulance procured by the Nugong Banggo Kebang at Riew Redang Dere in Siang district on Thursday last.

The ambulance was procured by the non-political and non-profit organisation representing eight villages of Siang district — Riew, Beging, Rasing, Jorsing, Komsing Kumku, Komsing Karo, Pangi and Sissen.

The programme was organised under the leadership of Nugong Banggo Kebang president Tanyong Taloh and general secretary Shaini Taki. According to Taki, the ambulance has been purchased with the objective of providing timely medical transportation to people, particularly during emergencies. The service will be available at highly subsidised rates, while members of the Nugong Banggo facing medical emergencies will only have to bear the fuel expenses, making the service virtually free.

Despite financial constraints, the organisation successfully acquired the ambulance through collective community efforts. Funds for the vehicle were raised through a lottery draw campaign launched in 2025.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Tasing lauded the initiative and described it as an exemplary model of community participation and social responsibility. He commended the members of Nugong Banggo Kebang for their dedication to public welfare and efforts to improve healthcare accessibility in the region.

Attending the event, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Pangin, Gamtum Padu, also appreciated the organisation’s humanitarian approach and commitment towards serving the people.

The flagging-off ceremony marked a historic milestone for the Nugong Banggo Kebang and the communities it serves, with residents expressing hope that the ambulance service would significantly improve emergency medical response and healthcare access in the area.
