ITANAGAR, Jun 24: The Department of Disaster Management, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, has issued a monsoon advisory urging residents of flood and landslide-affected areas to remain vigilant amid ongoing adverse weather conditions in Papum Pare, Keyi Panyor and Lower Subansiri districts.
The advisory, issued on Wednesday, comes in view of floods, flash floods, landslides, mudslides and waterlogging reported from several locations in the affected districts.
Residents, particularly those living near rivers, streams, hill slopes and low-lying areas, have been advised to closely monitor weather forecasts and follow official advisories issued by the authorities.
The department has urged people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from riverbanks, overflowing drains, landslide-prone slopes and areas showing signs of soil erosion or ground cracks. Commuters have also been cautioned against crossing flooded roads, bridges or fast-flowing streams.
Authorities advised residents to switch off electricity and gas connections if evacuation becomes necessary and move promptly to designated relief camps or safe shelters. Special care should be taken to assist children, elderly persons and persons with disabilities during evacuation, the advisory stated.
The public has also been asked to inform family members and neighbours about their whereabouts, return home only after official clearance, and remain cautious of damaged roads, weakened structures, fallen trees and exposed electrical wires.
To prevent water-borne diseases, residents have been advised to use safe drinking water and maintain proper hygiene.
The department further appealed to the public to immediately report any damage, blocked roads or emergency situations to district authorities, emergency operation centres, SDRF, NDRF and other designated emergency response agencies.
Officials reiterated that public cooperation and adherence to safety guidelines are crucial to minimizing risks and ensuring timely response during the monsoon season.
