APCC urges Govt to intensify relief, rescue and rehab measures in affected areas

ITANAGAR, Jun 24: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has expressed deep concern and anguish over the worsening flood situation affecting several districts of the State due to incessant torrential rainfall, flash floods, landslides, and other natural calamities.

In a press note, APCC president Bosiram Siram stated that the relentless fury of nature has caused extensive damage to roads, bridges, public infrastructure, agricultural lands, and private properties, severely disrupting normal life and connectivity in many parts of the State. The unprecedented weather conditions have displaced numerous families and left thousands of people grappling with immense hardship and uncertainty.

Expressing solidarity with the affected citizens, Siram conveyed his heartfelt sympathies and prayers to all families who have suffered loss of lives, homes, livelihoods, and property during this difficult period. He assured the people that the Congress Party stands firmly with every flood-affected family and shares in their pain and suffering.

“We pray for the safety, well-being, and speedy recovery of all those affected by these devastating floods and natural disasters. At this critical juncture, collective responsibility, compassion, and swift intervention are essential to safeguard lives and provide relief to those in distress,” Siram stated.

In this light, the APCC president has appealed to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to immediately intensify relief, rescue, and rehabilitation measures in all affected areas. He urged the State Government to undertake rapid damage assessments and ensure timely distribution of relief materials, emergency assistance, medical aid, food supplies, and adequate compensation to affected families.

Siram further called upon the State Government to issue regular travel advisories, weather alerts, and safety notifications for the benefit of the public, particularly for commuters travelling through flood-prone and landslide-vulnerable areas. He emphasized that timely dissemination of information can help prevent avoidable tragedies and save precious lives.

He also urged the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), district administrations, and all concerned agencies to remain on high alert and maintain full preparedness to respond swiftly and effectively to any unforeseen emergency arising from the continuing rainfall and deteriorating weather conditions.

Further, Siram appealed to all hydroelectric project authorities, dam management officials, and concerned departments to maintain round-the-clock monitoring of reservoir water levels, dam safety parameters, and structural conditions. He stressed the urgent need for timely public warnings, alerts, and updates regarding any potential overflow, discharge, or flood-related threats so that downstream communities can take necessary precautionary measures well in advance.

He also appealed to citizens to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable locations, strictly adhere to official advisories, and extend full cooperation to rescue and relief agencies in the interest of public safety.

In view of the prevailing situation, Siram has appealed to all Congress leaders and workers across the State to immediately mobilize and establish “May I Help You” assistance booth or centres in their respective districts wherever necessary.

He urged Congress volunteers to actively assist citizens during emergencies by providing support, facilitating relief efforts, and coordinating with local authorities wherever required.

Further, Siram directed all DCC (District Congress Committee) presidents to keep its volunteers on standby and fully prepared to respond to any emergency situation arising from the ongoing floods and natural calamities.

Moreover, the APCC urged all stakeholders to work collectively to minimize losses, protect lives, and ensure effective relief, rescue, and rehabilitation efforts.
