ITANAGAR, Jun 24: Rajya Sabha MP Tai Tagak expressed deep concern over the unprecedented devastation caused by the flash flood in Yazali on Wednesday morning, triggering landslides and widespread disruption across the region.
Reacting to the devastating flash flood that struck Poosa near Yazali in Keyi Panyor district, Tagak expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives and extensive damage caused by the calamity. He noted that the flash flood triggered landslides and caused widespread disruption, particularly along the Hoj-Yazali stretch of National Highway-13, severely affecting road connectivity and normal life.
The MP lauded the prompt response of the district administration, police, disaster management agencies and local leaders for their coordinated rescue and restoration efforts. He urged authorities to continue monitoring vulnerable locations and ensure that all necessary assistance reaches affected families.
Tagak also advised residents living along the banks of the Panyor river to remain vigilant and appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel on the Hoj-Potin road until it is declared safe by the authorities.
Expressing condolences over the death of Nirmala Gupta, a teacher of VKV NEEPCO, Yazali, who reportedly lost her life in the flood, Tagak described the incident as heartbreaking and prayed for strength for the bereaved family.
He further urged rescue agencies to intensify search operations to trace the missing persons and assured all possible support for relief and rehabilitation measures.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bosiram Siram voiced grave concern over the flood situation affecting several districts of the state due to incessant rainfall, flash floods and landslides. He said the calamities have caused extensive damage to roads, bridges, public infrastructure, agricultural lands and private properties, disrupting normal life and connectivity in many regions.
Expressing solidarity with affected citizens, Siram conveyed his sympathies to families who have suffered loss of lives, homes, livelihoods and property. He appealed to the State Government to intensify relief, rescue and rehabilitation measures, undertake rapid damage assessments and ensure timely distribution of relief materials, medical aid and compensation to affected families.
The Congress leader also called for regular travel advisories, weather alerts and safety notifications, particularly for commuters travelling through flood-prone and landslide-vulnerable areas. He urged the NDRF, SDRF, district administrations and other agencies to remain on high alert and maintain full preparedness for any emergency arising from the continuing rainfall.
Siram further appealed to hydroelectric project authorities and dam management agencies to maintain round-the-clock monitoring of reservoir levels and dam safety parameters, while ensuring timely public warnings regarding any potential flood-related threats.
In view of the prevailing situation, the APCC president directed Congress leaders and workers across the state to mobilise volunteers and establish “May I Help You” assistance centres wherever required to support citizens during emergencies and coordinate relief efforts with local authorities.
Both leaders appealed to the people of Arunachal Pradesh to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, strictly follow official advisories and cooperate with rescue agencies to ensure public safety during the ongoing monsoon crisis.
