Guv urges active public participation in SIR exercise

Itanagar, Jun 25: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik, along with his better half Anagha Parnaik, participated in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll by filling up their Enumeration Forms at Lok Bhavan, Itanagar, on Thursday.

The enumeration process was carried out by Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer (DEO) Lobsang Tsering and Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of Itanagar Assembly Constituency, Dani Rikang, under the directions of the Election Commission of India.

By personally taking part in the exercise, the Governor highlighted the significance of maintaining accurate and updated electoral records and called upon all eligible citizens to actively participate in the revision process.

Stating that public participation is vital for the success of the exercise, the Governor said electoral rolls are not merely administrative records but form the foundation of free, fair and transparent elections. He emphasized that every citizen has a responsibility to contribute towards strengthening democratic institutions.

Appealing to the people of Arunachal Pradesh, the Governor urged all eligible voters to cooperate with the Special Intensive Revision programme, which began across the state on June 15 and will continue till July 14. He expressed confidence that the people of the state, known for their civic responsibility and democratic spirit, would extend wholehearted support to ensure the success of the exercise.

The Governor also called upon residents to cooperate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during house-to-house verification visits and provide the necessary information and documents promptly. He particularly encouraged young and first-time voters to verify their details and ensure their names are correctly included in the electoral roll.

The DEO informed that the draft electoral roll will be published on July 21, following which claims and objections, if any, may be submitted as per the prescribed procedure.
