RAKAP, Jun 25: Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, Chanchal Kumar, who visited the Film and Television Institute (FTII) site today to assess the progress of ongoing works and infrastructure development, asked the authorities to be fully gear up to accommodate the new batch of students expected in August.
Accompanied by Dr Ajay Nagabhushan MN, Joint Secretary (Films), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting; Deputy Commissioner Papum Pare Lobsang Tsering; and Vice Chancellor SRFTI Kolkata Prof Samiran Dutta, the I&B Secretary took stock of construction activities at the FTII site, the status of campus infrastructure, and visited the institute’s Water Treatment Plant.
Post a series of inspections, the Secretary held separate meetings with officials of the PHED & Water Supply Department, Itanagar Division, and the Power Department, Yupia Division, to evaluate progress and ensure timely completion of pending works. Representatives from CPWD and the concerned contractor were also present during these discussions.
Later, while interacting with institute staff, the visiting Secretary instructed authorities to be fully prepared to accommodate the new batch of students expected in August. Afterwards, he also interacted with the students and encouraged them to make the most of the institute’s facilities and opportunities.
Moreover, encouraging stronger engagement with the local community, the Union Secretary advised the Registrar to organise activities involving local people to foster a positive synergy between the institute and surrounding communities.
He also stressed the importance of keeping the campus vibrant through regular film festivals, screenings, cultural interactions, and other creative events, and suggested providing training for officials and staff at reputed institutions.
On advancing the development of the new institute, the Secretary suggested holding a videoconference with the three Vice Chancellors of FTII Pune, SRFTI Kolkata, and FTII Itanagar. (DIPRO)
