Four labourers injured in landslide at stone crusher plant in Keyi Panyor

Itanagar, Jun 26: Four labourers were injured after a landslide struck their camp at the D&L Stone Crusher Plant near the Keyi Panyor Welcome Gate in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday evening, official sources said on Friday. Sources said that the incident occurred around 4:30 pm when a portion of a hillside collapsed following heavy rainfall. The workers were reportedly asleep in their camps when the landslide hit. Some of the victims were partially buried under debris and were rescued by fellow workers before emergency responders could reach the site. The injured have been identified as Jagadish Deuri (25), Krishna Newar (30), Abdul Malek (23), and Khageswar Bharali (31). All four sustained injuries, including fractures and head trauma. Jagadish Deuri was reported to be in a serious condition and complained of severe chest pain. Rescue and relief operations were hampered by the remoteness of the area, which falls within a no-mobile-network zone, making communication and real-time assessment difficult. Access from the Keyi Panyor side was also challenging due to landslide-affected terrain and the absence of a motorable road leading to the site. Following an assessment of the situation, the district administration coordinated with the Papum Pare district administration to deploy a medical team comprising Senior Medical Officer Dr Kajing Borang and Nursing Assistant Tok Apa to provide emergency medical assistance to the injured workers. Considering the deteriorating condition of one of the victims, assistance from the 12th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was also sought. An 11-member NDRF medical and rescue team, led by Dr Atul, Commandant (Medical), departed from Itanagar with an ambulance to support treatment and facilitate evacuation, if required. Both the medical team and the NDRF personnel were scheduled to converge at Hoj before proceeding on foot to the affected location on Friday morning. Authorities said further updates would be shared as more information becomes available from the field.
