War against drugs: Woman arrested with 51 Gm of suspected heroin

KHONSA, Jun 26: Continuing its war against drug menace, Deomali Police in coordination with the Deomali Administration apprehended a woman, and seized 51 grams of suspected heroin during a search operation conducted at Batey Colony, behind WRG College, Deomali.

The operation was carried out on Thursday by Inspector Wangke Ronrang, SI Ngalo Jilen and the Police Station Ready Team, in presence of executive magistrate Toko Kacha, CO Soha, and an independent witness, Pharo Khamtin.

The accused, identified as Nyamyang Thingnok (39), wife of Nayami Thingnok and a resident of Batey Colony, was nabbed in connection with an earlier case involving the alleged peddling and supply of suspected narcotic drugs in the Deomali area.

During the search of her residence and surrounding premises, the police recovered 51 grams of suspected heroin, Rs 9,700 from suspected sale proceeds, a mobile phone, and other incriminating articles. All seized items were weighed, marked, labelled, packed and sealed on the spot following due legal procedure.

Police informed that several attempts had earlier been made to arrest the accused. However, she had been evading apprehension since the registration of the case and the arrest of two other accused persons, Sandiya Deb and Sunil Gurung, on May 15 last.

It was further revealed that Nyamyang Thingnok had previously been arrested in another case registered under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act, indicating her alleged repeated involvement in narcotics-related offences.

The Deomali Administration and Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining zero tolerance against drug peddling and drug abuse, and affirmed that stringent action will continue against those involved in the illegal narcotics trade.

The administration has also appealed to the public to extend their cooperation by sharing credible information on drug-related activities and join hands in making Deomali and Tirap district a drug-free zone. (DIPRO)
