Wangsu calls for stronger enforcement, capacity bldg at LM&CA Chintan Baithak

NAHARLAGUN, Jun 27: A "Chintan Baithak-cum-Review Meeting" of the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs (LM&CA), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, was held at the conference hall of the Controller, Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs here on Saturday.

The meeting was chaired by Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs Minister Gabriel D Wangsu and attended by Secretary Mige Kamki, Controller Minte Siga, Under Secretary Kipa Yakum, Deputy Controllers, Assistant Controllers, Inspectors and other departmental officers.

In his keynote address, Wangsu emphasized the need for evolving enforcement strategies and methodologies to enable field officers to effectively address the changing dynamics of the business sector. He stressed the importance of capacity building and directed the department to formulate training programmes, including exposure visits to other states, to learn and adopt best practices in legal metrology and consumer affairs administration.

The minister also urged officers to ensure the expeditious disposal of cases related to establishment matters and enforcement activities. Highlighting the importance of strict implementation of the Legal Metrology Acts and Rules, he directed enforcement officers to intensify inspections across every corner of their respective districts and strengthen the functioning of the standing Mobile Inspection Teams (MITs) at zonal levels.

Wangsu further stressed the need for maintaining a peaceful and conducive working environment in offices to facilitate timely disposal of files and public complaints.

Reviewing the department's performance, Secretary Mige Kamki called upon officers to equip themselves with modern office applications and digital tools to become self-reliant in administrative work. He advised district units to function in a coordinated and cohesive manner to achieve better results and meet the annual revenue targets fixed by the state government.

Kamki also informed that officers' performance in achieving departmental targets would be reflected in their Annual Performance Appraisal Reports (APARs).

Earlier, welcoming participants, Controller Minte Siga urged all officers to actively engage in deliberations and contribute towards formulating a roadmap for the welfare and growth of the department. He emphasized the importance of fostering a harmonious and friendly workplace environment for the overall development and efficiency of the department.

The meeting reviewed the department's functioning, enforcement activities, revenue generation, and strategies for improving consumer protection and legal metrology services across the state.
