Guv exhorts students to build character, discipline alongside academic excellence

ITANAGAR, Jun 28: State Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik on Sunday celebrated his birthday with students, teachers and staff of Abotani Vidya Niketan at Pachin Colony, Naharlagun, and urged young learners to pursue holistic development rooted in discipline, integrity and responsibility.

Interacting with students, the Governor emphasized that true success is built not only on academic excellence but also on good character, integrity and a strong sense of responsibility.

He encouraged students to cultivate curiosity, continuous learning and self-discipline, while reminding them that small acts of kindness, compassion and service contribute significantly to nation-building.

Highlighting the importance of holistic development, the Governor urged the students to adopt the guiding motto, ‘mentally alert, physically strong, and morally straight’. He encouraged them to respect their parents, teachers, and cultural heritage, noting that these values provide a strong foundation for personal growth and responsible citizenship.

He advised the students to remain open-minded, embrace innovation, and learn from new ideas and experiences, without losing touch with their roots and identity.

The Governor also stressed the importance of physical fitness and a disciplined lifestyle, encouraging students to stay active, avoid harmful habits and channel their talents towards constructive pursuits and service to society.

Impressed by the discipline and enthusiasm displayed by the students, Governor Parnaik announced that he would facilitate coaching and mentoring support for Sainik School aspirants through Indian Army units stationed in the State. He also announced the establishment of an Advanced Learning Centre and the provision of books to strengthen the school’s library resources and promote learning.

The event featured colourful cultural performances showcasing Arunachal Pradesh’s rich traditions and a yoga demonstration highlighting discipline, harmony and well-being.

Reinforcing his commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability, the Governor also participated in a plantation programme along with the teachers and students. He encouraged the young learners to become ambassadors of environmental protection and develop a lifelong commitment towards preserving nature.
