ITANAGAR, Jun 28: Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik has stated that helmed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Act East Policy has become a “potent engine” for “unprecedented” development of the North East, which is now surfacing as India’s gateway to Southeast Asia

Gracing the valedictory function of the five-day North East NSS (National Service Scheme) Festival of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt of India, at Arunodaya University, Jollang here today, the Governor said: “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Act East Policy has become a powerful catalyst for the comprehensive development of the North East, and it has consistently had a transformative impact. This region, once considered remote, is now emerging as India’s gateway to Southeast Asia.”

While appealing to the NSS volunteers to become proud ambassadors of the North East, the Governor said: “Wherever you go, speak with pride about the North East’s breathtaking landscapes, its serene valleys, majestic peaks, pristine rivers, vibrant culture and socio-economic development.”

The Governor said that the youth of the North East have a vital role to play in shaping the region’s future. He said that by investing in education, skills, and digital literacy, they can unlock new opportunities in a rapidly changing world. At the same time, they must take pride in preserving their rich cultural heritage while embracing innovation and modern ideas. As custodians of a region blessed with extraordinary natural wealth, they should champion sustainable development. By fostering entrepreneurship, creating jobs, and strengthening the spirit of unity, service, and nation-building, they can lead the North East towards lasting progress and prosperity.

Parnaik said that the future of the North East is bright, and that future rests in hands of the youth of the day. He advised them to dream boldly, act responsibly, and work together to build a prosperous, peaceful, and developed region that contributes significantly to the progress of India.

He said that NSS volunteers contribute to nation-building through selfless community service, environmental protection, literacy, and rural development. Their experiences foster leadership, empathy, teamwork, and national integration, shaping responsible citizens dedicated to an inclusive and progressive India, he said.

The Governor commended the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, NSS Regional Directorate, Guwahati, Arunodaya University, Jollang and State NSS Cell, Directorate of Higher & Technical Education for organizing the festival, which he termed as celebration of unity, service, and cultural harmony. By bringing together volunteers from all eight North Eastern States, it has strengthened bonds of friendship, mutual respect, and understanding across the region, he said.

On the occasion, the Governor felicitated winners of various competitions as part of the festival. The NSS Team of Sikkim received the Best Disciplined Team Award.

Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) Chairman Dr Pradip Lingfa, Arunachal Pradesh Administrative Reforms Commission Chairman Pramod Jain, and AU Vice Chancellor Dr N V Sangvikar also spoke on the occasion.

N C Deori, Youth Officer and Jangjilong, Regional Directorate In-Charge, NSS, Regional Directorate, Guwahati, Deans and Professors, AU, and officers from the DHTE (GoAP) were present at the concluding event. (PRO to Governor)
