Focus on protecting forests, promoting sustainable agriculture, and creating a greener future, plantation drive done at Etalin

ANINI, Jun 30: On the concluding day of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan, the Department of Forest in collaboration with the District Administration and KVK Dibang Valley organized a plantation drive at Etalin village under the theme ‘Plant Trees, Save Life’ as part of the Van Mohotsava celebrations.

The programme saw participation from members of the public, including Sadu Mihu (ZPC), Rimi Meme, Kasa Miwu, Lachi Ekroya, GPs, Farmers, and other villagers, reflecting the community’s commitment to environmental conservation.

During the programme, Circle Officer Gemin Tayeng inaugurated the plantation drive, and highlighted the importance of afforestation and community participation in protecting nature.

Speaking on the occasion, Neelam Sunny, agroforestry expert from KVK Dibang Valley, shared valuable insights on different tree species, their ecological importance, and the long-term benefits of plantation for environmental sustainability. He also emphasized the aesthetic value of trees in enhancing the area's natural beauty. Under the RKVY local initiative, 20 cherry blossom saplings were planted in and around Etalin to promote both ecological conservation and landscape beautification.

Following the successful plantation drive, Narang Ampi, Soil Science expert, explained the objectives of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan in detail and interacted with farmers, emphasizing sustainable agriculture practices and the importance of maintaining soil health.

Dani Nampi, Plant Protection expert, shared valuable information on the management and control of fall armyworm and provided detailed insights into the use and benefits of biofertilizers for sustainable farming.

Plantation drive concluded with officials, public representatives, KVK scientists and villagers collectively planting saplings, reaffirming their shared commitment to protecting forests, promoting sustainable agriculture, and creating a greener future.
