ITANAGAR, Jun 30: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has raised concerns over reports alleging encroachment by the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the establishment of settlements in the Taksing sector of Arunachal Pradesh, urging the Centre to clarify the situation and take appropriate measures if the reports are found to be true.
In a statement issued on Monday, APCC president Bosiram Siram said that any confirmed encroachment into Indian territory would constitute a serious challenge to the country's sovereignty and national security.
Reaffirming that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India, the APCC condemned what it described as repeated Chinese attempts to assert territorial claims over the state. The party maintained that no external claim or action could alter the state's constitutional status within the Indian Union.
The APCC chief questioned the Centre on whether reports of Chinese encroachment and settlements in the Taksing sector are accurate and, if so, sought details on the measures being taken to address the situation. It also asked what diplomatic, strategic and military initiatives have been undertaken to safeguard India's interests along the border.
The Congress party further argued that recent reports have intensified concerns regarding border security and called for greater transparency from the Union Government. According to the APCC, the people of Arunachal Pradesh deserve clear information and timely action on issues affecting the state's territorial integrity.
The party also urged BJP leaders in Arunachal Pradesh to take a firm stand in defence of the state's interests and ensure that concerns relating to border security are addressed without political considerations.
Reiterating its support for the Indian Armed Forces and border communities, the APCC said it remains committed to safeguarding India's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The party called on the Centre to respond to the concerns with facts and appropriate action, emphasizing that the security and dignity of Arunachal Pradesh must remain a national priority.
