ITANAGAR, Jun 30: Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan today assured all possible assistance from the Centre to the districts affected by floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall across Arunachal Pradesh.
Taking a review of the situation in disaster-hit Arunachal during his visit to the State along with Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju and Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Chouhan said the widespread devastation caused by heavy rainfall and landslides were beyond words and described it as a grave natural disaster.
“The scale of destruction was immense, with roads, bridges and houses damaged in several parts of the state, while farmers also suffered heavy losses as standing crops, including oranges, bananas and paddy, were severely affected,” the Union Minister said, while addressing reporters at the CM-II Office during a press briefing here this evening.
“As every individual’s life is important, the Central Government would extend all necessary support for relief, rehabilitation and restoration,” Chouhan assured, adding that in coordination with the State Government, GoI would leave no stone unturned to help the people of Arunachal Pradesh recover from the calamity.
The Union Minister said he would appraise the central government for allocating funds. “The immediate relief for the affected families, the central government would strengthen the ration supplies including medicines,” he shared.
To reach out to the affected districts, Chouhan said that he would personally visit the rest of the affected areas by personally monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, the Union Minister further stated that the field visit was carried out as per the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to assess the extent of the damage in the calamity-ravaged State.
Meanwhile, the Union Minister, in his social media post, said: “Reached Arunachal Pradesh on a two-day visit with my colleague, Union Minister Shri @KirenRijiju ji.
As directed by Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji, we will review the flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. In this hour of crisis, the Central Government stands firmly with the people and the governments of both states.”
