PASIGHAT, Jul 1: Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Kiren Rijiju, accompanied by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, on Wednesday conducted an on-ground assessment of flood damage in Boying village of East Siang district following the recent overflow of the Sibo Korong River.
The leaders visited some of the worst-affected areas, inspected the damage caused by the floods, interacted with residents and reviewed the impact on public infrastructure, agricultural land and private property. They also took stock of the ongoing relief and restoration measures being undertaken by the district administration.
Interacting with affected residents, Chouhan assured that the Government of India would provide all possible assistance for relief, rehabilitation and restoration works.
He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre remains fully committed to supporting the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in rebuilding damaged infrastructure and ensuring timely assistance reaches every affected family.
Rijiju attributed the unprecedented flooding in Arunachal Pradesh and neighbouring Assam to exceptionally heavy rainfall, noting that several areas recorded more than 200 mm of rainfall in a single night.
He said that while the monsoon season brings challenges every year, the intensity of this year's rainfall resulted in widespread destruction of infrastructure and loss of lives.
Reiterating the Centre’s commitment, he said the Government of India stands firmly with the people of Arunachal Pradesh and will provide all necessary support for restoration and rehabilitation efforts.
Khandu stated that the State Government’s immediate priorities are ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens, providing timely relief to affected families, restoring damaged infrastructure and expediting rehabilitation measures.
He assured that the State Government stands firmly with the people during this difficult period and that every effort is being made to ensure assistance reaches all affected households at the earliest.
The inspection was attended by Guardian Minister of East Siang district Nyato Dukam, MLA Oken Tayeng, Pasighat East MLA Tapi Darang, East Siang Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani, Superintendent of Police Pankaj Lamba, State BJP president Kaling Moyong and heads of various departments. (DIPRO)
