PASIGHAT, Jul 1: In a significant initiative to promote preventive healthcare and raise awareness about cervical cancer, the East Siang Doctors celebrated National Doctors’ Day 2026 with an HPV (Human Papillomavirus) Vaccination awareness programme at the IJG Govt Hr Sec School (IGJGHSS), Pasighat today.
The event aimed to educate students, parents, teachers, and the general public about the importance of HPV vaccination in preventing cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases.
Medical professionals highlighted that HPV is one of the leading causes of cervical cancer among women, and timely vaccination can significantly reduce the risk of infection and save lives.
Addressing the students and teachers of IGJGHSS Pasighat, East Siang District Medical Officer Dr Yagling Perme stressed the need for early vaccination, particularly among adolescent girls, while also dispelling common myths and misconceptions surrounding the vaccine.
The Doctors encouraged parents to make informed healthcare decisions and support immunization efforts for their children.
The programme featured informative sessions by healthcare experts, who explained the safety, effectiveness, and benefits of the HPV vaccine. The students, especially the girls between the age of 14-15 years were also given the opportunity to interact with medical professionals and seek clarification on various aspects of HPV infection and cervical cancer prevention.
Doctors, speaking on the sidelines of the event, said that the initiative was part of a broader effort to strengthen public awareness about preventive healthcare and promote healthier communities through education and timely medical intervention.
The event, held in observance of National Doctors’ Day, reflected the commitment of the medical fraternity in East Siang district towards community health and preventive medicine.
The programme concluded with an appeal to the public to actively participate in vaccination programmes and support awareness campaigns aimed at reducing the burden of preventable diseases.
Speaking to media post the event, DMO Dr Perme and DRCHO Dr Nidak Angu reiterated that awareness and vaccination remain among the most effective tools in the fight against cervical cancer, urging communities to embrace preventive healthcare practices for a healthier future.
The HPV vaccination can be availed from Bakin Pertin General Hospital, Pasighat and other healthcare centres.
