Itanagar, Jul 3: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has completed the construction of a 180-ft Bailey bridge in the remote Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh, significantly enhancing strategic connectivity to forward border areas.
Constructed under Project Arunank, the bridge was launched by personnel of the 85 Road Construction Company (RCC) and the 756 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) despite relentless rainfall, flash-flood threats and extremely challenging mountainous terrain.
According to a defence official, BRO teams worked round the clock to overcome severe logistical and environmental challenges during the execution of the project.
The newly constructed triple-double reinforced (TDR) Bailey bridge is expected to substantially improve the movement of security forces, military equipment and essential supplies to border locations. It will also serve as a crucial lifeline for residents of remote villages by ensuring reliable connectivity throughout the year.
Project Arunank has played a key role in expanding strategic road and bridge infrastructure across Arunachal Pradesh, including the vital Hapoli–Sarli–Huri road network. The latest bridge is expected to further strengthen the region's transport network while improving access to isolated areas.
Officials said the bridge will facilitate all-weather connectivity, integrate remote border villages with the mainstream economy and enhance defence preparedness in one of Arunachal Pradesh's most challenging operational sectors.
According to the Guwahati-based Defence PRO, the successful completion of the project reflects the BRO’s continued commitment to strengthening India's border infrastructure and supporting national security while advancing the vision of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat through resilient and strategic connectivity projects.
