Bad weather forces MP Tai Tagak to cancel aerial flood survey

Itanagar, Jul 7: Inclement weather on Tuesday forced the cancellation of an aerial survey of flood-affected districts by Rajya Sabha MP Tai Tagak, prompting him to prioritise ground inspections instead.

Tagak and his team waited at the Naharlagun Helipad for several hours for weather clearance, but the proposed helicopter survey could not be carried out due to adverse weather conditions.

The State-owned Global Vectra Bell 412 helicopter had been scheduled to cover flood-hit areas in Siji and Igor in Lower Siang district, Basar in Lepa Rada district, Koyu in Lower Siang and the Ramle Bango area and Advanced Landing Ground at Pasighat in East Siang district.

Tagak said it had been two weeks since he took oath as a Rajya Sabha MP and that, in keeping with his commitment to the people, he had begun visiting disaster-affected areas. He noted that his first visit was to Keyi Panyor district, which was severely affected by the June 24 disaster.

Noting that aerial survey of flood-hit districts is postponed and not cancelled, the MP assured flood-affected families of his continued support and said he would pursue assistance from the Union Government for relief, rehabilitation and the supply of essential commodities to the affected communities through the district administrations.

Tagak also said that a team of Union ministers and senior officials will soon visit the eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh to assess the flood situation in the affected districts.
