WAKRO, Jul 11: General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Dao Division, Maj Gen RS Chandel, visited and interacted with rural Arunachal students of Apna Vidya Bhavan and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Wakro, in the Beena Ghose Roy (BGR) Enclave, reaffirming the Indian Army's commitment to supporting education in remote areas.
Addressing the students, Maj Gen Chandel assured them that the Indian Army would continue to stand by them in their pursuit of learning and make sustained efforts to improve educational facilities for children in rural areas.
The GOC, accompanied by Commanding Officer of 9 Rajput, Col Roopak Thakur, distributed stationery and other educational materials among the students.
As part of the visit, Maj Gen Chandel also extended assistance under the Geeta Katoch Vidya Prakalp and the Ghanshyam Singh Katoch Prakalp, which provide free educational support to rural children. Assistance was provided to a girl student and a student of Apna Vidya Bhavan.
The dignitaries also visited the Sri Sri Sadanandamoyee Maa Kali Temple, the Maitreya Abode and the Geeta Dorm, named in memory of Geeta Katoch, former Chief of the Family Welfare Organisation of the Dao Division.
Members of the local community expressed gratitude to the Army for its continued support to rural education and appreciated the distribution of quality learning materials to the students. They also thanked Infantry Brigade Commander Brig Kaustubh Kekre and Maj Paawas Tiwari, Second-in-Command of 9 Rajput, for facilitating the GOC's visit to the schools.
