Guv stresses need to strengthen state's prosecution system

ITANAGAR, Jul 13: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik on Monday stressed the need to strengthen the state's prosecution system and ensure timely justice, particularly in cases involving crimes against women and children.

The Governor made the remarks when Additional Advocate General Dugmar Kamduk called on him at Lok Bhavan in Itanagar on a courtesy visit following his recent appointment.

Congratulating Kamduk on assuming the constitutional responsibility, the Governor conveyed his best wishes for a successful tenure. He expressed confidence in Kamduk's professional competence, integrity and commitment to public service, stating that he would discharge his duties effectively while upholding the rule of law and meeting the expectations of both the government and the people of Arunachal Pradesh.

During the interaction, the Governor highlighted the crucial role of the legal and prosecution machinery in ensuring timely justice and strengthening public confidence in the judicial system.

Expressing concern over the comparatively low rate of prosecution and conviction in cases involving crimes against women and children, he said such offences require prompt, sensitive and effective legal action. He stressed the importance of close coordination among investigating agencies, prosecutors and other stakeholders to ensure speedy delivery of justice.

The Governor also reiterated his call for strengthening the Directorate of Prosecution through capacity building, professional training and enhanced institutional support.

A robust prosecution system is essential for protecting citizens' rights, enhancing the effectiveness of law enforcement and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice, he said.
