TAWANG, Jul 13: The 12-day-long Nangpai Choikor Chenmo spiritual procession concluded on Sunday at Urgelling Monastery, marking the successful completion of a historic and sacred journey that covered more than 600 kilometres across the Buddhist-inhabited regions of West Kameng and Tawang districts.

Organised by the Sherab Sangpo Sangha, the procession was led by Rev Gontse Khensur Geshi Thupten Khunphel and commenced on July 1 from the historic Lhagyala Monastery in Morshing, Kalaktang.

During the 12-day pilgrimage, the sacred procession travelled through the major Buddhist-inhabited areas of Rupa, Dahung, Bomdila, and Dirang in West Kameng district before entering Tawang district. It later passed through Jang, Lhou, Thonglek, Lumla, Gorsem, Zemithang, and Tawang, finally culminating at Urgelling Monastery.

At every halt along the route, hundreds of villagers and devotees gathered to welcome the procession, receive blessings, offer prayers, and pay their respects. The procession became a unifying spiritual event, drawing participation from people across different villages and monasteries.

On July 6, while halting at Jang, the devotees carrying the sacred procession celebrated the 91st birthday of Tenzin Gyatso with special prayers and religious observances.

The Choskar resumed its journey the following day, continuing towards the remaining Buddhist settlements of Tawang district.

Thousands of devotees joined the procession throughout its journey, offering prayers for the long life, good health, and continued guidance of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. The procession spread the timeless message of peace, compassion, harmony, unity, and universal brotherhood while reinforcing the rich Buddhist spiritual and cultural heritage of the region.

The historic procession also witnessed the participation of several public representatives, including Kalaktang MLA Tseten Chombay, Thrizino-Buragaon MLA Tenzin Nyima Glow, West Kameng ZPC Phurpa Droima, ZPC Tawang Leki Gombu and Lumla MLA Tsering Lhamu, who joined devotees at different stages of the spiritual journey.

The successful completion of the 600+ km Nangpai Choikor Chenmo procession stands as one of the region’s most significant spiritual events, strengthening communal harmony and preserving the centuries-old Buddhist traditions shared by the people of West Kameng and Tawang districts.
