Itanagar, Jul 15: The Zonal General Hospital (ZGH), Bomdila has achieved a major milestone in healthcare delivery by successfully performing its first-ever ENT surgeries—Tympanoplasty and Pediatric Tonsillectomy—marking a significant milestone in the hospital’s growing surgical capabilities.
The surgeries were carried out by a dedicated operation theatre team led by Senior Anaesthesiologist Dr Ani Siram and ENT Surgeon Dr Hano Ramesh, with assistance from Nursing Officers Rushmi, Kanchan and other OT staff. The team ensured safe and effective surgical and anaesthesia care despite the challenges associated with high-altitude conditions and limited resources.
With this achievement, the hospital's operation theatre is now fully functional round the clock and equipped to perform a wide range of routine and emergency surgeries across multiple specialties, including Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT and Oncology.
The introduction of ENT surgical services is expected to significantly benefit patients from West Kameng district and neighbouring areas by reducing the need for referrals to hospitals outside the district and ensuring timely access to specialised treatment closer to home.
Hospital authorities, however, highlighted the urgent need for the appointment of an additional anaesthetist. They pointed out that the hospital's 24×7 operation theatre services are currently being managed by a single anaesthetist, posing challenges in maintaining uninterrupted emergency and surgical care. Strengthening the anaesthesia workforce, they said, would further enhance the hospital's capacity to serve the region effectively.
The successful launch of ENT surgical services reflects ZGH Bomdila's continued commitment to expanding quality healthcare facilities and improving access to specialised medical care in one of Arunachal Pradesh's frontier districts, officials said.
