Ziro Royal Enfielders raise Rs 4.51 lakh for Keyi Panyor flood victims

Ziro, Jul 15: The Ziro Royal Enfielders (ZRE) Motorcycle Club has organised two major charity initiatives within a week, raising Rs 4.51 lakh for flash flood victims in Keyi Panyor district and extending support to inmates of the Grace Rehabilitation Centre in Ziro.

ZRE Club chief Nending Ommo said the club launched an online fundraising campaign on June 25, a day after the devastating cloudburst-triggered flash flood in Possa under Keyi Panyor district. He said the initiative was inspired by the longstanding Baro-Manyang bond of friendship between the Apatani and Nyishi communities.

Although an offline donation drive in Ziro was initially planned, it was later dropped due to the lack of prior permission from the district administration. The club instead continued its online fundraising campaign, which received an overwhelming response from individuals, organisations and motorcycle clubs from across the country.

On July 9, a team of 16 ZRE riders travelled to Yazali and handed over Rs 4,51,014 to Yachuli MLA Toko Tatung for the MLA Relief Fund to support flood-affected families. The cheque was presented at the Inspection Bungalow, Yazali, in the presence of district officials and ZPMs. Earlier in the day, the riders were flagged off from Ziro by Ziro-Hapoli MLA Hage Appa.

Ommo expressed gratitude to all donors, with special appreciation for the Open Road Wanderers Motorcycle Club (ORWMC), Sikkim, for organising a fundraising campaign in support of the initiative. He also extended best wishes to the club for hosting the 16th North East Riders Meet 2026.

ZRE vice chief Hage Duyu said the club organised another charity ride on July 11 in collaboration with the Red River Odyssey Motorcycle Club during the inaugural North East Monsoon Odyssey 2026. Around 70 riders participated in the ride to the Grace Rehabilitation Centre, managed by the Apatani Baptist Association, where they donated cash, food items and refreshments to the inmates.

General-in-command Duyu Deilyang said the club believes motorcycling should serve as a platform for promoting tourism, communal harmony and social responsibility. Besides riding, ZRE has undertaken several community initiatives, including plantation drives, plogging campaigns, participation in Mission Clean Kley River, environmental awareness programmes, solidarity marches, visits to orphanages, and assistance to visiting motorcycle clubs.

Thanking all members for their commitment, Ommo said ZRE's strength lies in its diversity, with members drawn from the armed forces, government service, business and other professions, representing communities from Arunachal Pradesh as well as other parts of the country.

"These achievements are possible because of the collective efforts of every member. We will continue to ride with purpose, serve society and strengthen the spirit of unity and brotherhood," he said.
