Khonsa, Jul 16: In a joint operation, the Assam Rifles (AR) and Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) apprehended a juvenile allegedly found in possession of suspected heroin in Tirap district.
According to official sources, the operation was launched on July 11 following specific intelligence about the presence of a suspected drug peddler in the Khonsa town area. Acting on the input, the joint team conducted a search operation and apprehended the juvenile.
During the operation, security personnel recovered 15 packets of suspected heroin from the juvenile's possession. The seized contraband was handed over to the Arunachal Pradesh Police for further investigation and legal action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, as applicable.
Officials said that as the individual is a minor, all procedures were carried out in strict compliance with the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, ensuring the protection of the child's rights and dignity.
The competent authorities have also initiated appropriate counselling, rehabilitation and child protection measures in accordance with the provisions of the law.
The joint operation forms part of the ongoing efforts by security forces and the state police to curb drug trafficking and substance abuse in the region. (DIPRO)
