RONO HILLS, Jul 25: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) on Friday accorded a warm send-off to two PhD scholars selected to participate in the prestigious Hiroshima Orizuru Fellowship Summer Course on Peace and Sustainability–2026 in Japan.
The programme, jointly organised by Hiroshima University, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (Japan) and Columbia University (USA), will be held from July 28 to August 6 at Hiroshima University under the Hiroshima Orizuru Fellow Initiative.
The selected scholars are Nillo Yedi from the Department of Horticulture and Gebina Tatak from the Department of Sociology. The 10-day course, themed "Clinic on Conflict and Collaboration in Natural Resource Management: Advancing Positive Peace and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," will bring together young researchers from across the world for interdisciplinary learning, field studies and policy dialogue.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Shivaraj said the fellowship would expose the scholars to evidence-based research and policy-oriented learning. He urged them to serve as goodwill ambassadors of RGU, Arunachal Pradesh and India, expressing confidence that they would earn the title of "Hiroshima Orizuru Fellow."
Finance Officer and Registrar (i/c) Prof Otem Padung said the selection reflected RGU's growing commitment to academic excellence and international collaboration.
Joint Registrar and Coordinator of the International Scholars' Cell Dr David Pertin informed that participants would undergo intensive workshops, classroom sessions, field studies and independent research focusing on sustainable natural resource management. He noted that this was the second consecutive year RGU scholars had been selected for the fellowship, highlighting the university's strengthening academic ties with Japanese institutions.
The scholars expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying they looked forward to bringing back knowledge and global perspectives to contribute to sustainable development, peace studies and research in Arunachal Pradesh.
The university fraternity wished the scholars success in their academic journey and future research endeavours.
