Tirap launches ‘Gems of India’ Challenge to promote local heritage through digital content, also launched in Lohit, Upper Siang

Khonsa, Jul 29: The Tirap district administration, in collaboration with the Department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), on Wednesday launched the 'Gems of India' Challenge to encourage local content creators to showcase the district's rich cultural heritage, tourism potential and indigenous traditions through digital storytelling.

The programme, held at the DC's Conference Hall, was attended by Tirap Deputy Commissioner Badonlum Tawsik, DIPRO Ponung Tasing, DDSE K C Lowangcha, DTO Rigio Tabam, district officials, students and aspiring content creators.

Launching the initiative, DC Badonlum Tawsik described the challenge as a unique platform for the youth of Tirap to present the district's identity before a national audience. He encouraged participants to create original content highlighting Tirap's tribal culture, festivals, landscapes, historical sites, handicrafts, cuisine and inspiring local stories.

He said digital storytelling can play a vital role in preserving indigenous traditions while opening new avenues for tourism promotion and livelihood generation.

Earlier, DIPRO Ponung Tasing explained the objectives, themes, prize structure and registration process of the challenge through the Government's WAVES OTT platform. She urged young creators to utilise the opportunity to showcase Tirap's culture, tourism, indigenous knowledge and developmental achievements.

The Deputy Director of School Education and the District Tourism Officer also encouraged students to creatively highlight the district's educational progress, scenic beauty, entrepreneurial spirit and cultural diversity.

The programme concluded with an interactive session on producing impactful digital content centred on Tirap's heritage, tourism, environment and development.

The 'Gems of India' Challenge is a pilot initiative of the I&B Ministry being implemented across two States and four Union Territories to celebrate the unique identity of districts through original digital storytelling.

TEZU: The district level launch of “Gems of India Challenge – National Creator Initiative” was held at the DC’s office conference hall here today, as government officials and content creators from across Lohit district attended it.

Nyatum Doke, DIPRO Lohit, introduced the initiative and delivered a PPT presentation explaining its objectives, participation guidelines, selection process and opportunities available to digital content creators.

Doke informed the gathering that the Gems of India Challenge, launched by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, is a national initiative aimed at identifying, nurturing and promoting grassroots digital creators.

The submission window for the pilot phase will remain open from August 1 to 31 next.

During the programme, a short introductory video titled “Gems of India -MyWAVES” was screened.

This was followed by an interactive session during which officials and content creators discussed the themes, technical requirements and procedure for participation.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Lohit Kesang Ngurup Damo, who is also the Chairman of the District Jury, encouraged the content creators of the district to participate actively in the challenge. He said that Lohit district possesses immense potential for creative storytelling through its diverse communities, traditional knowledge, festivals, natural beauty, historical places and developmental achievements.

Outstanding creators will be recognised at the district, State and national levels. The initiative provides for up to 20 district level awards of Rs 50,000 each, while one selected creator from each district may compete for a State level award of Rs 2 lakh. Selected State entries may subsequently compete for national awards of Rs 5 lakh each during the wider national rollout.

The programme concluded with an appeal to local content creators to make effective use of the initiative to showcase the unique stories and creative potential of Lohit district.

YINGKIONG: As part of the Pilot Phase I of the GEMS OF INDIA Challenge – National Creator Initiative - launched by the Ministry of I&B (GoI), the District Administration Upper Siang organized the district-level launch of the initiative at the DC’s office conference hall here today.

The launch event was chaired by Assistant Commissioner (HQs) Binti Mibang, in presence of District Jury members Duhon Tekseng (DDSE), Onam Darang Pertin (ADTH), Makpak Pertin (DACO), Yalik Jerang (DIPRO) and Lutni Perme, Principal GHSS, Yingkiong.

In her address, the AC described the GEMS OF INDIA Challenge as a significant initiative of the Govt of India to promote country’s rich heritage through digital storytelling. She urged the digital content creators of Upper Siang to showcase the district’s unique culture, traditions, natural beauty, and success stories in a positive and responsible manner.

Speaking on the occasion, the ADTH encouraged the participants to take part in the challenge with sincerity, creativity, and discipline, adding that such qualities are essential for becoming responsible citizens and successful creators.

Earlier, the DIPRO Upper Siang, in her welcome address, highlighted that the flagship initiative of the Ministry of I&B is aimed at identifying and promoting grassroots digital creators across the country.

On the occasion, a promotional video on the Ministry of I&B initiative was also screened for the participants.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from youths, content creators across Upper Siang, teachers and students of GHSS, Yingkiong and VKV, Yingkiong, and government officials. (DIPROs)
