ITANAGAR, Jul 29: The Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR) and the Abralow Memorial Multipurpose Society, with support from the Itanagar Smart City Development Corporation Limited (ISCDCL), organised a plantation drive at Govt Upper Primary School (GUPS), Lobi, on Wednesday to promote environmental conservation and sustainable living.
Held to mark International Tiger Day, the programme sought to instil environmental responsibility among school children and encourage them to become active custodians of nature.
Addressing the students, YMCR vice chairman Keyom Doni said environmental awareness must begin at a young age. He noted that children who understand the importance of trees and clean rivers today will become the strongest guardians of the environment in the future.
"Marking International Tiger Day with our young students is a reminder that conservation is not only about protecting wildlife but also the entire ecosystem that sustains life," he said, urging students to spread the message of conservation within their families and communities.
A quiz competition on environmental conservation, Arunachal Pradesh's heritage, geography, culture and current affairs was also organised. Twenty-one students, divided into eight teams, participated in the event.
The first prize was jointly won by Rou Yangfo, Hakan Payeng and Asha Nilling, while Tatung Omang and Nitu Karjee jointly secured the second position.
The In-charge of GUPS Lobi appreciated the organisers and volunteers for providing students with an engaging platform to enhance their knowledge and environmental awareness.
