IMD predicts heavy rain, thunderstorms in several Arunachal dists over next 2 days

Itanagar, Jul 29: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Arunachal Pradesh over the next two days.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Itanagar, thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall (6-11 cm in 24 hours) are very likely at isolated places in East Siang, Lohit, Namsai and Longding districts on Thursday and Friday.

Papum Pare district, meanwhile, is likely to experience very heavy rainfall (12-20 cm in 24 hours) at isolated places during the same period.

Lower Subansiri, Lower Dibang Valley and Lohit districts are likely to witness thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall at isolated places on Friday and Saturday.

The IMD has also warned of very heavy rainfall over Papum Pare district on Friday and Saturday, cautioning that intense spells of rain may trigger localised flooding, waterlogging and disruption of normal activities in vulnerable areas.

The weather office has advised residents, commuters and authorities to remain alert and take necessary precautions in view of the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rain across the affected districts over the next two days. (PTI)
