Itanagar, Jul 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a meeting with Members of Parliament from Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland to review the flood situation in the two Northeastern states and assured continued support from the Centre in addressing the challenges posed by the ongoing monsoon.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister discussed the impact of the floods and landslides, the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts, and the need for close coordination between the Centre and the affected states.
He reaffirmed that the Central Government would continue working closely with the respective state governments to address the situation and ensure timely assistance.
In a statement after the meeting, Modi said, "Had a meeting with MPs from Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. We talked about the situation in these states in the wake of floods there. The Central Government will keep working with the respective state Governments to address the challenges. Praying for everyone’s wellbeing and safety."
The current spell of floods and landslides has so far claimed seven lives, injured 29 people and affected 1,49,392 people across Arunachal Pradesh. The monsoon has impacted all 27 districts, affecting 343 administrative circles and 594 villages.
Heavy and incessant rains have also caused widespread damage to public infrastructure, with 198 roads and 38 bridges among the assets damaged. Water supply schemes, power infrastructure, government buildings, schools and flood protection structures have also suffered extensive losses, disrupting normal life in several parts of the state.
The agriculture sector has also been severely hit, with over 733 hectares of crop area damaged, including horticulture plantations and agricultural land, while nearly 1,010 hectares of forest area have been affected.
Relief, restoration and rehabilitation efforts are continuing across the state with the support of the State Government and the Centre. The Prime Minister's assurance comes as authorities intensify measures to restore connectivity, repair damaged infrastructure and assist affected families.
