ITANAGAR, Jul 30: Aiming at stepping up efforts towards sustainable Mithun husbandry, ICAR–National Research Centre (NRC) on Mithun, Medziphema, in collaboration with the Jomlo Mongku Mithun Farmer Federation (JMMFF), provided one unit of barbed-wire fencing each to the farmers of Kebang village (Siang district) and Pakur village (East Siang district) to promote semi-intensive Mithun farming.
The collaboration also saw the conduct of awareness programmes on semi-intensive Mithun farming, health camps, vaccination drives, deworming, disease surveillance, breeding bull exchange programmes, and scientific advisory services with the active support of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary & Dairy Development, GoAP.
Semi-intensive Mithun farming enables better disease control, improved breeding management, reduced crop damage, enhanced fodder development, and greater productivity while conserving the indigenous Siangmi Mithun. The newly provided fencing materials will help establish secure community enclosures and strengthen sustainable Mithun husbandry.
In the meantime, the JMMFF has expressed sincere gratitude to ICAR–NRC on Mithun and the Dept of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary & Dairy Development for their continued technical guidance and support. This partnership demonstrates how research institutions, government departments, and farmer organizations can work together to improve livelihoods, conserve Mithun, and promote sustainable livestock farming across Arunachal Pradesh.
