Itanagar, Jul 30: The fourth edition of the AEDMA Conclave 2026, organised by the Arunachal Electronic and Digital Media Association as part of its 14th Foundation Day celebrations, concluded on Wednesday with a strong emphasis on ethical journalism, responsible digital reporting and the evolving role of media in governance.
Addressing the inaugural session, Information and Public Relations Minister Nyato Dukam urged electronic and digital media professionals to uphold the highest standards of ethics, discipline and responsibility while adapting to technological advancements.
He said the media serves as an important pillar of transparency and accountability, particularly in highlighting gaps in the implementation of government welfare schemes. Calling for constructive engagement between the government and the media, Dukam encouraged journalists to identify shortcomings and offer meaningful suggestions to improve governance.
Expressing concern over the growing trend of unregulated mobile-based journalism, the minister observed that individuals without professional training were increasingly influencing the media landscape and stressed the need to preserve journalistic standards.
The conclave featured three panel discussions under the theme "Empowering Change through Information." The first session explored the role of digital media in citizen empowerment, with speakers emphasising fact-checking, ethical reporting and the dangers of sensationalism.
Speaking during the discussion, Arunachal Press Club president Amar Sangno urged journalists to prioritise quality reporting and avoid exaggeration, while DIGP Tumme Amo called on media professionals to verify information thoroughly before publication and remain free from vested interests. Arunachal Frontier Tribal Front chairman Tadak Nalo also stressed that journalism must remain factual, impartial and credible.
The second session focused on how digital media and information technology can enhance governance, knowledge dissemination, skill development and socio-economic opportunities across Arunachal Pradesh.
The concluding session discussed media freedom and responsibility, highlighting the importance of fearless, unbiased and professional journalism while reinforcing ethical standards for emerging digital media practitioners.
Earlier, AEDMA president Jotam Toko Tagam proposed the establishment of a dedicated institute for mass media excellence, particularly for trained video journalists. Responding positively, Minister Dukam assured that the proposal would be taken up for detailed discussions.
A commemorative journal marking AEDMA's 14-year journey and documenting the evolution of media in Arunachal Pradesh was also released during the event.
The conclave concluded with a collective call for responsible journalism, stronger professional standards and constructive collaboration between the media and government to strengthen democratic governance and informed public discourse.
