NEW DELHI, Jul 31: Rajya Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh, Tai Tagak, on Friday inaugurated the first Delhi & NCR North East Sports Meet 2026 as the chief guest and officially declared the Games open.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Delhi Olympic Association President Saroj Sharma, CEO Kuldeep Vats, and Chairman of the Delhi & NCR North East Sports Meet 2026, Manash Deka.
Organised by the 7 Sisters Foundation in association with the Delhi Olympic Association, the championship aims to bring together talented athletes from the North East community residing in Delhi and the National Capital Region while promoting sportsmanship, unity and youth empowerment.
Addressing the gathering, Tagak said sports and culture serve as powerful forces that connect people and strengthen national integration. He emphasised the importance of respecting the values and identities of different regions, fostering mutual understanding, trust, compassion and a spirit of brotherhood to contribute to nation-building.
The MP also interacted with athletes and students from across the North Eastern states and encouraged them to pursue sports with dedication, discipline and the true spirit of sportsmanship. He said the talent, determination and enthusiasm displayed by the young sportspersons reflected a bright future for Indian sports.
Tagak congratulated the organising committee, volunteers, sponsors and participating athletes for making the event possible and wished all competitors a successful, memorable and inspiring championship.
